5MAY21 - Letter to the Federal Environment Minister

Updated: May 27

"Hello Sussan.
Thank you for the opportunity to raise my, and others', concerns about the proposed development of what will be the 4th quarry surrounding us at Royalla. I am writing to you in your capacity as Federal Minister for the Environment in the hope that that position is the highest in the land in regard to environmental issues affecting Australians. The negative effects of quarrying are well understood and well documented, and we believe that, in this case, far outweigh any benefit that will be obtained from the quarry. We are especially concerned about pollution from dust, blasting, increased traffic flows. About air quality. About the impacts on the water table and ground water. About the local flora and fauna. About the preservation of endangered species that live in this area. We are also concerned about our health and way of life, and our beautiful surrounds. I know that your area of influence is the national level, but lower levels build up to that level: you don't have a national sphere without many local ones. It is our hope that you will look at this proposal, discuss it with your state counterpart (and ACT counterpart as parts of the ACT will be impacted) and ensure that due processes are followed and that peoples' concerns are taken into account. Developments like this, with the potential to impact people severely could happen anywhere, at any time, to anyone. We need help. Thank you.
