5MAY21 - Letter to the ACT Minister for The Environment

Updated: May 27

This is a copy of a submission issued to the ACT Minister for Environment, which we are sharing with permission from the author. Please use this to help formulate your responses/submissions to the key decision makers.

Hello. I am writing to inform you that there is a proposal to develop a 4th quarry near Royalla. The operation of the quarry will impact an area covering North Fyshwick in the North, Carwoola to the East, Calwell/Condor to the West and The Angle/Williamsdale to the South. Thus the area encompasses many ACT residents. The environmental impacts of quarries are widely documented and well understood. This is not solely a local NSW issue. Our environment needs protecting. Damage to the environment includes pollution from dust, noise, traffic, blasting and visual impacts. Ground water and the water table can be impacted. Wildlife habitat will be destroyed. Endangered species, of which there are several, will be further threatened. There are other areas of concern. What we would like you to do is to raise awareness of this proposal with your residents, and your and their concerns with responsible NSW and Federal Ministers. We would also like the matter discussed in the Legislative Assembly. It should be understood that proposals like this, which have the potential to completely dominate lives, can happen at any place, at any time and to anyone. We hope that you can see the seriousness with which we are taking this proposal and agree that the development should be stopped.
Thank you for your time.
